Why take a Cambridge exam?
It is becoming increasingly important not only to master English but also to prove one’s level of competence with regard to schools, universities or future employers. Indeed, companies with international activities generally require candidates to have a certificate attesting to their command of English. Universities in English-speaking countries also ask applicants to demonstrate that they have a level of English high enough to study the chosen subject.
Cambridge exams are recognized around the world. By assessing the four language skills of grammar and use of English, listening, reading and writing, they certify your command of English. These diplomas are real assets on the CV.
Which exam to choose?
The pages below describe each Cambridge exam and will help you choose. If you have already taken other exams such as the TOEFL or the TOEIC, you can also refer to our exam comparison.
- Cambridge English: Preliminary (PET)
- Cambridge English: Key (KET) for Schools
- First Certificate in English (FCE)
- Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)
- Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)
For Schools
The difference between the traditional exams (KET, PET, FCE) and versions for Schools is based on the content of the exam: the situations and themes are adapted to the interests of children and adolescents.
On the other hand, the validity and international recognition is the same for a traditional exam and its version for Schools.
Validity of Cambridge exams
Unlike other exams, such as IELTS, Cambridge exams do not have an expiry date. Thus, when you pass a Cambridge exam, the result is valid for the rest of your life. Please note that if you take the Cambridge exam for admission to a university, some institutions may accept a result up to 2 or 3 years after the exam date. It is best to check with the institution to which you are applying.
